NISM-Moody's Certificate in Derivatives Market Strategies (CDMS) – Registration Open

National Institute of Securities Market (NISM)-Moody's Certificate in Derivatives Market Strategies (CDMS) is an internationally recognized certification that validates the knowledge and skill in derivatives. The CDMS is an online based certification which is catered to both regulators and industry participants. The certification is aimed at the following:

  • Enhance the foundational knowledge in derivatives especially in areas of minimizing equity, interest rate, currency and commodity risk, structuring financial products like ETFs and formulation of trading strategies.
  • Gain knowledge required to enter into and progress in a variety of roles that utilize derivatives in the securities market.

Phase II of the IOSCO/PIFS-Harvard Law School Global Certificate Program for Regulators of Securities Markets, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, 2-7 December 2018 – Save The Date

IOSCO and the Program on International Financial Systems at Harvard Law School (PIFS-HLS) jointly developed a two-phase program aimed at offering IOSCO members an executive education program that is exclusively tailored for regulators of securities markets. Attendees have up to three years to complete both phases of the Global Certificate Program. Successful attendees will be awarded a joint certificate of participation issued by IOSCO and PIFS-Harvard Law School. Also, IOSCO members may attend any part of the program on a non-certificate basis. Following the inauguration of the program in 2016, it is envisaged that going forward both phases will be conducted once every year.

Phase I consists of three components: online learning materials; an in-person module on regulation; and an in-person module on compliance. The in-person modules will be conducted at IOSCO Headquarters in Madrid (Spain) from 18-29 June 2018, and will cover the fundamentals and intricacies of securities regulation and compliance. These two week-long sessions will be delivered primarily by current or former securities regulators.

Phase II consists of a one week-long in-person module that will be conducted on campus at the Harvard Law School in Cambridge (Massachusetts, US) from 2-7 December 2018. This one week-long session will examine current and future regulatory challenges and emerging issues and will be delivered by leading academics, securities regulators and public policy makers.

While any IOSCO member employee may attend the program, it is specifically designed for regulatory staff with strong leadership potential and approximately five years of regulatory experience.

The 11th edition of the IOSCO AMCC Training Seminar will be hosted by the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) in London, United Kingdom, on 31 October and 1 November 2018.
This yearly Training Seminar organized by the IOSCO Affiliate Members Consultative Committee (AMCC) will feature panels, case studies, presentations and breakout sessions and is open to all IOSCO members and free of charge. Topics for this year´s Training Seminar will include, among others: retail protection, enforcement, surveillance, derivatives regulation and cybersecurity. IOSCO Asia Pacific Hub – World Bank Group – Securities Commission Malaysia Conference Harnessing Islamic Finance for a Green Future, Kuala Lumpur, 14-15 May 2018

The IOSCO Asia Pacific Hub together with the World Bank Group and the Securities Commission Malaysia will be organising a Conference on Harnessing Islamic Finance for a Green Future from 14-15 May 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In recent years, climate change has risen to the top of the development agenda, with 195 countries signing the Paris Agreement to fight climate change. Given the scale of the financial resources required to support climate mitigation and adaptation initiatives, coupled with the strain on government budgets, the mobilisation of financing through innovative instruments is imperative. Hence, the use of Islamic finance to support Green investments has been receiving increased attention, with the recent issuances of the first set of Green Sukuk to finance climate friendly projects.

The Conference will explore the use of Islamic finance to support climate mitigation efforts, including the use of Islamic finance instruments to finance climate friendly projects. It will explore policy, regulatory and institutional elements required for the sustainable use of Islamic finance to address climate change. There will be particular focus on the recent use of Green Sukuk to finance projects in the region and the potential replication of these instruments in other markets.

The IOSCO Asia Pacific Hub will be conducting its inaugural Workshop on "Leveraging Behavioral Economics for Investor Education and Protection" at its premises in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 3-4 October 2017.

The program will review the fundamental principles behind behavioral economics and the application of behavioral insights to the design of specific interventions in the context of securities markets and to evaluate such interventions.

The annual IOSCO/FSI Seminar on Trading Book Issues and Market Infrastructure was jointly hosted by IOSCO and the Financial Stability Institute (FSI) from 16-18 November 2016 in Madrid, Spain.

The seminar was free of charge and provided up-to-date information concerning selected regulatory and supervisory issues to staff from central banks, supervisory authorities and securities commissions. The seminar focused on recent work undertaken by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) and IOSCO in the field of regulation and supervision of trading books in banks and related market infrastructures for trading activities.

9th Edition IOSCO AMCC Training Seminar, Chicago, US, 27-28 September 2016

The IOSCO Affiliate Members Consultative Committee held its 9th annual Training Seminar on September 27 to 28, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. The seminar, kindly hosted by the National Futures Association (NFA), was open to all IOSCO members. The previous year´s edition in Zurich attracted more than 140 participants from 50 jurisdictions.

The program featured panels, case studies and breakout sessions on “Implementing IOSCO Principles”.

Topics for the 2016 edition of the Training Seminar included:

  • key elements of a sound risk-based supervision system,
  • tools and resources for enforcement and investigations,
  • using data and data analytics to support regulatory action,
  • recent case studies in market surveillance,
  • latest developments in cybersecurity and the role of regulators in dealing with this critical issue, and
  • successful innovative approaches to retail investor protection.

This 3-day training seminar was organized under the aegis of the IOSCO Pilot Capacity Building Program and kindly hosted by the Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA). The first two days of the program were on "Risk Based Supervision" and the third day covered "SME Financing Through Capital Markets".

IOSCO and the Financial Stability Institute (FSI) held the Seminar on Trading Book Issues and Market Infrastructure, with particular emphasis on regulatory, legal, and compliance issues from 18 to 20 November 2015. The seminar, which was intended for bank supervisors and securities regulators, took place at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel, Switzerland. It was the tenth time that IOSCO and FSI organized this important joint program.

Practical experience on Implementing IOSCO's Principles

The annual Training Seminar organized by the IOSCO Affiliate Members Consultative Committee (AMCC) featured panels, case studies and breakout sessions on "Implementing IOSCO Principles". The event was kindly hosted by SIX-Exchange Regulation.

Programme and speakers

The program, available here, featured high-profile speakers, including Mr. David Wright, IOSCO Secretary General, as well as senior officials from the Swiss Financial Markets Supervisory Authority, the UK Financial Conduct Authority, the US Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and other regulators and self-regulators from Europe and elsewhere.

Topics for the 2015 edition of the Seminar included:

  • recent trends in identifying market abuse and innovative approaches to market surveillance,
  • key elements of a sound risk-based supervision system,
  • addressing conflicts of interest,
  • latest developments in cybersecurity and the role of regulators in dealing with this issue,
  • making a difference through enforcement actions: credible deterrence.

2015 IOSCO Seminar Training Program, Madrid, Spain, 20-23 October 2015

The Annual IOSCO Seminar Training Program took place from 20-23 October 2015 at IOSCO's premises in Madrid, Spain. The program was fully booked with over 100 participants, representing over 50 different jurisdictions.

In response to the increasing interest from IOSCO members in investor education related topics, the theme of the program was "Investor Education and Protection - The Major Challenges Ahead". The program provided for some very fruitful discussions between regulators as well as researchers and academics on issues such as:

7th IOSCO AMCC Training Seminar on Implementing IOSCO Principles, Tokyo, Japan, 8-10 April 2014

The IOSCO Affiliate Members Consultative Committee (AMCC) conducted a new edition of its "Training Seminar on Implementing IOSCO Principles", from 8 to 10 April 2014, in Tokyo, Japan.

The AMCC Training Seminar featured panels, case studies, presentations and breakout sessions on "Implementing IOSCO Principles". Invited speakers and panelists represented domestic and international organizations from a wide variety of countries and regions.

The two and half day program covered the IOSCO Principles relating to Regulators, Self-Regulators, Enforcement, Secondary Markets and Market Intermediaries, and addressed current regulatory issues, such as cyber-security, crowdfunding, social media, high frequency trading, complex products and other challenges to investor protection. Regulators, AMCC members and SRO officials were invited to attend.

The 2014 edition was divided into two sessions, a public session and a regulators-only session.

The Seminar was co-organized by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association (ANBIMA), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA), the Japan Exchange Group (JPX) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange Regulation (TSER).

The 6th edition of the IOSCO SROCC's Training Seminar took place from 22 to 23 May 2013 in Toronto, Canada, following the SROCC Mid-Year Meeting of 21 May. The SROCC Training Seminar featured panels, case studies, presentations and breakout sessions on "Implementing IOSCO Principles". This year's two days program covered the IOSCO Principles relating to Firm Supervision, Inspections and Enforcement. The agenda also included panels on High Frequency Trading, SME Finance and Ahead of the Curve regulatory topics.
